Kitty Hawk Kites and the Rogallo Foundation have announced the cancellation of the 6th Annual Brewtag event, scheduled for October 24, 2020.
Outer Banks Brewtag is a fundraiser supporting the Rogallo Foundation, which was created in 1992 and whose mission is to honor the Rogallo’s; preserve their priceless records, artifacts, and research; interpret their incredible story; and protect this legacy of free flight for millions of people in all nations of the world.
“Due to the effects of COVID-19 on crowd gathering and event planning—and our commitment to delivering the best experience for our guests, volunteers, and community — we do not believe we will be able to deliver this event to the standard our guests have come to expect. We look forward to hosting Brewtag again in 2021,” the organizers said in a statement.
“We remain committed to the overall goal of creating a museum in honor of Francis Rogallo and his invention that ultimately led to hang gliders, paragliders, kites, stunt kites, kiteboarding kites, and revolutionized parachutes.
“We will continue to accept donations via our website throughout 2020 to work toward that goal.
“We would like to thank all our sponsors, as well as all of the volunteers and patrons who help make this event a success.”

In 1948, Francis and Gertrude Rogallo enjoyed the first successful flight of their flexible wing, a revolutionary aero concept that was constructed from Gertrude’s kitchen curtains and developed from research conducted in their in-house, homemade wind tunnel.
