Check out the exciting new plans for Willen Lake redevelopment in 2020 and 2021 – MKFM

Willen Lake have announced plans for ‘phase two’ of their redevelopment with a number of new facilities being proposed and set to open by Summer 2021.

Following the success of phase one in 2017, which saw the opening of Splash ‘n’ Play, a coffee and ice cream kiosk, additional toilet facilities, and a new, surfaced car park offering an additional 300 spaces, the lake are now pleased to announce details of the phase two project.

Phase two will enhance the visitor experience even further and will involve the construction of an impressive new building situated on the edge of the lake.

The building will house a purpose-built watersports centre (which will also be home to our wakeboarding activities and the popular inflatable water course, Aqua Parcs) along with a new cafe and restaurant. The building will be fully accessible, with level access, lifts, accessible toilets and baby change facilities.

There will also be an upgrade to the existing children’s play area.

The park will remain open as usual during the work and all activities will run as normal.

Watersports Centre

The building will house a purpose-built watersports centre with state-of-the-art facilities for customers including; modern changing rooms, showers and additional toilets. This centre will be the hub for all watersports and wakeboarding activities at Willen Lake by bringing them under one roof.

Cafe and Restaurant

The new building will include a new café and restaurant, which will offer dining options on both the ground and first floor. The restaurant will offer stunning views across the lake and the opportunity to dine alfresco.

Play Area

The children’s play area is being upgraded as part of the development and once complete, Willen Lake will have over an acre of free play, offering the biggest free play area in Milton Keynes.

Landscaping

The improvement of the peninsula on the western side of the lake will create a vibrant promenade along the waterfront and improve public access to the water’s edge. Improvements will also be made to the landscaping at the lake, opening up views and creating a relaxing environment.

Changing Places

We are excited to announce the inclusion of a full Changing Places facility, which will accommodate people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, as well as older people with severe disabilities.

Toilets

As part of the new building, there will also be brand new public toilets, which will replace the existing toilets adjacent to the play park.
