FOND DU LAC – Fond du Lac County’s contenders in the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin contest have made it into the top eight.

Marine engineering manufacturer Mercury Marine won over Stoughton Trailers, and Mayville Engineering Co. Outdoors, which makes shotshell reloaders and clay target machines, beat out Ki Mobility from Stevens Point, according to Monday’s Facebook Live announcement from Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce.

The contest, hosted by the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce and Johnson Financial Group, features the top creations of Wisconsin’s manufacturing industry. It started with 150 products, which narrowed down to 16 in a popular vote that was announced Sept. 21.

Now, the top eight will vie for a place on the top four, hoping to be named the winner.

Mercury Marine is in the contest for its Bravo Four S Forward-Facing Drive boat motor with a “Smart Tow” customization system for tow sports, such as wakeboarding and water skiing. Users can select their tow sport, and the motor will automatically optimize launch acceleration and tow speed, and will even provide the appropriate wake for the sport, according to the Facebook Live.

Mayville Engineering Company's popular 600 Jr. Mark V Shotshell Reloader made it in the number six seed of the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin Contest's top 16.

Mayville Engineering Co. Outdoors’ 600 Jr. Mark V Shotshell Reloader also progressed in the contest. The product has been popular in the company since the early 1970s. It’s even considered the world’s No. 1 shotshell reloader for its ease of use, according to their website.

In this next round for the top four, Mercury Marine will be going up against Caterpillar Global Mining out of South Milwaukee for their electric rope shovel. Mayville Engineering Co. Outdoors is against Neenah’s Kimberly-Clark and their Nano Preemie Diapers for babies weighing less than two pounds.

Voting is open on madeinwis.com until Sunday, and the top eight winners will be announced Monday. The final winner will be announced Oct. 14.
