SYMONNE Kennedy received a Senior Ambassador Scholarship from the Foundation for Women’s Wake.
The Mandurah athlete was honoured at the Wakeboard Australian Nationals in Canberra.
Mrs Kennedy also won a National Australian Title to add to her list of achievements. She holds three national titles for boat riding and a national title for cable riding. The titles are in the veterans (over 39) category.
“The National Title win for me was brilliant as I’ve put a lot of hard work into my riding and had a few bad injuries,” she said.
“But nothing could beat my 2018 Ambassador Scholarship.
“To be recognised in front of all my peers from Wakeboard Australia and some of Australia’s best wakeboarder’s was the best.
“I’ll use this scholarship money to put on more fun events and further develop women’s wakeboarding here in WA.”
Mrs Kennedy’s daughter Stella also excelled at the nationals, coming runner-up in the under 9 girls category.
Ten local riders went to the Moomba Boats Wakeboard Australian Nationals in Canberra.
There were 100 riders in the competition and the local riders won two national titles, a runner up title and a third place.
“I’ve been wakeboarding behind the boat for 10 years with our local club Westoz Wakeboarding,” Mrs Kennedy said.
“We run all our grass roots competitions at Bonney’s Water Ski Park in Baldivis.”
Mrs Kennedy said wakeboarding as “huge” in the Eastern States, but was not as popular in WA.
She has been running Ladies of the Lake clinics for four years.
