Egypt’s world number two Mohamed Elshorbagy will play in his second successive Grasshopper Cup final on the Professional Squash Association World Tour after beating compatriot Karim Abdel Gawad in Zurich.
The 28-year-old advanced with victory in a thriller at Halle 662 that ended 11-7, 9-11, 12-10, 11-6 in 59 minutes.
Gawad, the world number four, beat Elshorbagy to win December’s Black Ball Open.
The roles were reversed today, though, as Elshorbagy played at a pace his opponent could not match.
“I’m very proud of this performance,” Elshorbagy said.
“I knew after I beat him in the Tournament of Champions (ToC) that he would be looking sharp today.
“I thought at the ToC he was maybe a little bit out of his level.
“Today, I knew he was going to be up for it from the first point.”
The second semi-final proved more straightforward as third seed Tarek Momen beat Mohamed Abouelghar 11-4, 11-6, 11-8.
The final will take place at 3.30pm tomorrow local time.
