Off The Water – Islay Watson | News | News & Events | RYA – Royal Yachting Association

Having secured a superb silver medal for the British Sailing Team at the iQFOiL European Championships in August we caught up with windsurfer and now foiler, Islay Watson.

In the Off The Water podcast this month Robin Nicol gains some fantastic insights into the journey of a windsurfing family from Loch Insh to Lake Silvaplana. Islay is joined by her mum Kim as they share their journey into windsurfing, the challenges they faced and explain what it is like to race the newest Olympic class at International level.

Of course all credit goes to ‘Supergran’ as we hear how the family have benefitted from the journey on several levels as they committed to the performance pathway leading them to celebrate international success and a look to a positive future for the sport.

Islay Watson (19) is a former windsurfing youth world champion and was the only Brit to finish in the top 12 at the IQFoil Europeans, which was the first dedicated major championships for the iQFOiL since it was announced as the Paris 2024 windsurfing equipment.

This is the 9th episode of the RYA Scotland podcast, Off The Water, which provides an opportunity to hear from members of the boating community across a range of activities.
