Sarah Douglas: Plotting path to Tokyo – Scuttlebutt Sailing News

Published on August 10th, 2020

Canadian Sarah Douglas, plotting her path to the podium for Tokyo 2020 Olympics, provides this update:

The Canadian Laser Radial team has come together from across the country to train together in Kingston, ON. After being separated for 4 months, we are back on the water pushing hard. With travel restrictions and COVID-19, we decided to train in Kingston where the breeze is best in the summer.

The focus was upwind speed and technique adjustments in steering, body movements and boat handling. It was a fantastic 4 weeks of training where we pushed outside of our comfort zones and made big gains in our sailing. In August we will focus on downwinds, starting, and racing.

What’s Next?
Still a lot of uncertainty in the world and our plans. We are evaluating the options of training and traveling and what to do when it starts to get cold in Canada.

CAN Fund Recipient
On July 24, 2020, the day the Tokyo Opening Ceremony was originally scheduled, I was surprised by a call from Elle Struthers who told me CAN Fund was supporting me for another year and that I am a 150 Women Recipient. The one year mark is a hard pill to swallow but I am so blessed to have so much support.
