A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured Tuesday when he jumped from a car driven by his mother who then accidentally ran him over.

Kenosha Police were called to the accident in the 5100 block of 25th Avenue at 5:12 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the police report, when police arrived the 13-year-old was laying near an alley and was already being treated by Kenosha Fire Department paramedics.

“I observed that he had a black mark on his face similar to a tread pattern of a wheel,” the officer wrote. He said the teen was talking to medics.

The boy’s mother, 43, told police that a group of about 10 kids had taken her 13-year-old son’s bicycle from their home in the 5300 block of 19th Avenue. She said she got into her Dodge Durango along with her two sons and a friend and were following the kids in the hope of getting the bike back. In the 5100 block of 25th Avenue they saw the group of kids.

According to the report, she told her kids to stay in her vehicle until she came to a complete stop. She guessed that she was still traveling at around 15 mph when she felt a bump in the road and then her older son yelled “stop” and told her she had run over the 13-year-old.

The boy was taken to a local hospital and then taken by Flight for Life helicopter to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. According to the police report he had a partially collapsed lung and a serious concussion.
