Youtube star Joe Weller turns Eastbourne into ‘luxury’ resort – The Argus

A VIDEO blogger with millions of followers has set himself an unusual next project.

Joe Weller wants to turn his hometown of Eastbourne into a “luxury holiday destination”.

He set out his goal in a video released on Thursday, which has already been watched more than 660,000 times.

And this figure is likely to rise, with the 24-year-old boasting a staggering 5.3million subscribers on YouTube.

But he admitted the task could be a challenge.

Joe said: “Like most towns in England, there’s not a lot going on in my hometown of Eastbourne.

“It’s actually, officially, the old person capital of the UK.”

In 2015 it was reported that the town had an average age of 71, the highest in Britain.

The Argus:

So, Joe set himself the challenge of cramming as many activities as he could into a 24-hour window, without leaving the area.

These included walks along the Birling Gap cliffs, wakeboarding off the coast and spending a night in an abandoned house.

Addressing his followers as he walked through a forest, he said: “I wanted to switch the perspective and show that, even though we can’t travel right now, it is possible to bring the adventure to you.”

Later in the ten minute video, he took to the water and kayaked along the coast, with Eastbourne visible in the background.

Then, back on dry land, he launched a drone from the beach and captured the Birling Gap cliffs.

Joe said: “I’m now going to fly the drone, where I am, and you’re going to see how mad it looks.”

The Argus:

He gushed over the stunning seafront scene, describing the drone footage as “beautiful” and the “money shot”.

To finish the day, he took a hike up the cliffs.

Joe said: “It literally feels like I’m in a different country. This doesn’t feel like England.”

Gesturing to the sun setting over the cliff’s edge, he said: “”This is unreal. Looking at this, coming out in nature in my hometown, it’s sick and I love it…This is home.”

And his reinvention of Eastbourne went down well with followers from the seaside town.

One commented: “As someone who grew up in and around Eastbourne, I am so glad someone has shown people how beautiful it really is. (I) loved this video.”
