They are all back: The regattas, the Gurit Forum, the Expo, the flying boats available for trials in water are all back. This unique 2020 Foiling Week edition is dedicated to Chico Forti, to his family and to all the organizations who are following his incredible case.

#Sail4Chico is the hashtag for 2020 Foiling Week

Enrico “Chico” Forti, is a former windsurfing champion, who has been incarcerated in a Florida prison for over twenty years. On June 15th, 2000, Chico was sentenced to life in prison for a crime he has always professed himself innocent for.

As of today, for the US judicial system, any legal action seems to be definitively precluded, so it now necessary to resort to the intervention of the Italian government to bring Chico back to Italy as a prisoner. Foiling Week aims to give active support to Chico’s cause, to urge the government prompt intervention, since Chico’s resistance is now at the end of his tether and every new day feels unbearable.

Our action for Chico is one of solidarity and of witnessing. We will ask those who will intervene in Malcesine as in Arco, and all sailors who want to join in, wherever they are, to participate to the cause by taking a photo with their hands indicating the symbol “4C” (4 Chico) and share it on their social networks with the hashtag # sail4chico

Foiling Week Regatta (17 – 20 September)

The MAX Moth Regatta in partnership with Sailmon, the Waszp and Persico 69f regattas will be held at Fraglia Vela Malcesine. The multihull regattas at the Circolo Vela Arco and the base of the Wing Foil that will compete in the first Italian Wing Foil Tour Championship will be held at Kite Club Malcesine.

Kim Coster from the Dutch Sailmon, sponsor of the Moth regatta, has said: “We are partnering with Foiling week 2020! We will showcase our latest innovation MAX, the number one training and racing display in the market. MAX gives sailors the opportunity to improve their sailing based on data.”

During the event Sailmon, MAX will be available for all participants to try out. If you want to know more, go to sailmon.com/max.

Looking forward to meet you all, Kim Coster”

The Waszp Class, thanks to a Foiling Week collaboration with SAILGP, will have winners receive tickets for a European 2021 leg of the contest and the opportunity to visit the team bases.

One of the most anticipated classes will certainly be the revolutionary Persico 69F circuit. Giorgio Benussi, COO of 69F Sailing has stated: “We are proud to see that a path started two years ago, presenting the project at the Foiling Week forum, is now being completed, proud to be nominated as best project at the Awards last year and to finally start racing with a fleet of boats this year”

Elia Rossetti, organizer of the Wing Foil Tour enthusiastically has told us: “The Wing Foil Tour lands in Malcesine, an unmissable event for all enthusiasts”

Also, in Malcesine, in collaboration with the World Match Racing Tour, there will be a demonstrative match race for children with the 10 feet Pocket Foiler. The winner will then be a guest aboard of a Persico 69F, to bring their foiling experience to a higher level.

James Pleasance for World Match Racing Tour: “We are very happy to work with Luca and the Foiling Week team on this fun initiative. As we have seen from the America’s Cup to the World Match Racing Tour in recent years, a match race can be run with many types of boats, from monohulls to catamarans and even foiling boats. We look forward to seeing the Foiling Week participants accept the challenge!”

The Flying Phantom, the S9 and other single catamarans will be based at the Circolo Vela Arco which also organizes the regattas.

Registrations, which have been open for a few weeks, are open online here.

Gurit Forum (17 – 19 September)

It will be possible to follow the Gurit Forum in live streaming on the Foiling Week Facebook and YouTube channels. The schedule for the panels will be announced soon, and they will be moderated by Chris Museler, Andrew Pindar and Bruno Giuntoli.

Expo and Trials (17 – 20 September)

Foiling Expo is a boat and equipment exhibition. BeFoil, 10 ‘Pocket Foiler, Waszp and Candela powered by Torqeedo will all be on display along the shore of the Fraglia Vela Malcesine with their designers and dealers available for information and details.

Together with Foiling Expo, the Foiling Boat Trials will allow you to try the foiling boats on display: this is open to all sailors who want to discover 3.0 sailing. Each boat will be closely followed by a dinghy with an instructor who will guide the experience and ensure safety.

Learn to Fly and Foil Tasting (17 – 20 September)

Come and make your “First Flight”. Are you a sailor and want to try foiling? Foil Tasting is your flight baptism, 20 minutes on a Waszp with a dedicated coach from Europa Sail, the Italian distributor of Waszp.

Do you want a complete experience that puts you in a position to “fly” starting with your next release? Learn to Fly is a 90-minute course where you will have the opportunity to try foiling with professional trainers and different types of boats. (In collaboration with Andrew Simpson Water Sports Center). The foilers available are RS Aero foiling, foil windsurfing and Laser foiling.

For these two experiences, it is necessary to register here.

Foil Pumping Contest (17 – 18 September)

Among the activities planned in Malcesine, there will also be a foil pumping competition. On a foil board without a sail and with only the strength of their legs, anyone who wishes can try to establish the best travel time on the 100-meter long path that runs along the southern jetty of Fraglia Vela Malcesine.

Polynt, who has dealt with polymers and intermediates for over 60 years. Their experience in composites for boating and aeronautics, crucial in the foiling world, is witnessed at Foiling Week with the supply of regatta prizes specially made with recycled carbon and Polynt polymers.

We are waiting for you at the Fraglia Vela Malcesine from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th September for the Foiling Week 2020. Don’t miss it!
