A child on a raft on Lake Michigan was pulled to safety by people on water scooters near Simmons Island Sunday morning.

According to Kenosha Police Sgt. Leo Viola, the child apparently was not injured in the 11:30 a.m. incident, and the water scooter riders were able to rescue the child within minutes prior to authorities’ emergency personnel, including Kenosha County dive team and the U.S. Coast guard, arriving at the scene.

According to police radio traffic reports, the child was apparently in some distress prior to being rescued.
