A Winter Solstice Hike this evening in the Kettle Moraine Northern Unit will celebrate the longest night of the year.

Break out that flashing snowman shirt! It’s Ugly Christmas Sweater Day!

And, no, our adorable Christmas sweaters that we wear every year are NOT ugly!

To celebrate Ugly Christmas Sweater Day, Kenosha Creative Space is hosting a new event: The All-Ages Ugly Sweater Hip-Hop Show @theSpace. From 8 to 11 p.m., local entertainers will perform, including Tommy Conquest, Domo Banks, Oshi, Beat Council, Armon Wilkes, Rune Will, DJ Fast Life, Frank G and Analicia Lasett. Admission is $5, or at least one non-perishable food item. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the venue, 624 57th St.

It’s also Go Caroling Day, and we encourage everyone to get outside and start singing. You can also “go caroling” at the Rhode Center for the Arts, where the Fleeing Artists theater troupe is performing Charles Dickens’ classic story “A Christmas Carol,” starting tonight. Performances are 7:30 tonight and Saturday night, with 2 p.m. matiness on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $13 for adults and $10 for students, senior citizens, teachers and members of the military. www.fleeingartists.org.

This is the final weekend for the PM&L Theatre’s production of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” by Barbara Robinson. In this classic Christmas comedy, a couple are struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant and must cast the Herdman kids — probably “the most inventively awful kids in history,” according to show organizers. Performances are 8 tonight and 2:30 and 8 p.m. Saturday at the theater in downtown Antioch, Ill. Tickets are available through the box office, 847-395-3055, and online at pmltheatre.com

We pause in our Christmas preparations to celebrate the Winter Solstice — the longest night (and shortest day) of the year. To mark the longest night of the year, a Solstice Night Hike is 6:30 to 8 tonight in the Kettle Moraine Northern Unit. Hikers will gather around a fire and share solstice traditions. Meet at the Zillmer Trail Shelter, located off County Road SS between County Road G and Highway 67 near New Prospect.
