What was your first job?
I had a paper route when I was 12 years old, but my first official job was scooping ice cream at Farrell’s Ice Cream.
What is an issue currently facing your industry an outside observer might not be aware of?
Real estate only requires one month of schooling with no mandatory internships, making it a low barrier of entry profession. Yet every real estate deal is unique, and many are complicated to execute. This means many inexperienced agents who don’t have the skillset or experience to anticipate problems or know the right questions to ask, are handling complex transactions. Deals can crumble or the customer can be left feeling short-changed.
If you had to live in another country for a year, which would you choose and why?
I would live in Spain because of its world-class rock climbing and access to excellent climbing in France.
What is your motto?
Everything in my life is a result of my attitude and actions.
What career advice would you give to your teenage self?
Take marketing and accounting courses; whether you become a professional athlete, artist, or a doctor, understanding how to capture customers and manage money is as important as honing your craft.
What was the toughest lesson you’ve learned in your career?
I’ve had to learn tough lessons on managing my expectations about people and outcomes of deals. While relationships are critical in business, they do not always guarantee you will secure business. And if you do, it doesn’t always mean it will be a smooth transaction.
What is your favorite thing about living in Nevada?
I can have it all living in Nevada. As a person who values art, culture and outdoor recreation, I have access to some of our country’s best rock climbing, endless mountain ranges to explore, and kiteboarding on the lakes. Afterward, I can enjoy a fantastic meal, show, or gallery event.
