Water Police are on their way to the Esplanade in Dalkeith after a boat found a broken sail and its board floating without its owner in the water.

About 4.30 police responded to reports of a crash on the water involving a boat and a windsurfer, however, police say the initial reports could be false.

“It could be nothing, it’s still very early,” a spokesman said.

He said passengers of a boat sailing near the Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club contacted police after finding a broken windsurfing board and sail not far off the shore.

Police officers will be speaking with people on the boat as well as anyone on shore.

“They’ll spec the boat that’s found the sail … we’ll be relying on eye witnesses (on shore),” a spokesman said.

More to come.
