World’s best windsurfers battle at Hookipa | News, Sports, Jobs – Maui News

The event, being put on jointly by the Professional Windsurfers Association and the International Windsurfing Tour, kicked off Sunday with the women’s single-elimination competition and continued Monday with men’s single-elimination competition. In epic conditions where wave faces reached over 30 feet, Martin won the men’s final over Camille Juban of Guadeloupe and Maui’s Bernd Roediger (second photo) and Kai Lenny (third photo). On Sunday, Sarah Quita Offringa (fourth photo) of Aruba won the women’s competition, topping Iballa Ruano Moreno of Spain, Motoko Sato of Japan and Lina Erpenstein of Germany in the final. The competition continues today, conditions permitting.
