Plans have been unveiled to build a huge surfing wave park costing £25 million – and it sounds incredible.
The wave park, called Emerge Surf, would be located in Coleshill, just outside of Birmingham – around five hours on the train from Edinburgh.
The site would have a 5.4-acre artificial surf lagoon, along with an outdoor heated pool and various other facilities, including a perimeter track for Onewheel electric skateboards.
Steve Price, founder and CEO of Emerge Surf, said: “It’s an incredibly exciting time in the development of surfing.
“The mental and physical benefits of the sport are increasingly understood and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will hugely increase levels of interest and participation.
“In parallel, the significant strides made in wave pool technologies have the potential to make the sport accessible to all.”
He added the idea was to provide a “world class surfing experience for surfers of all levels”.
Developers have submitted the application to North Warwickshire Borough Council and said the site, which is the most landlocked park of its type, could create 100 new jobs and attract up to 250,000 visitors a year.
Earlier this year, plans for a “world-class” wave-generating lagoon was approved in Edinburgh at the former Craigpark Quarry site.
Wavegarden Scotland have said the will transform the disused Quarry near Ratho, with with a planned opening day set for Spring 2021.
